You or your business have probably received some kind of cold email or cold call from an ambitious marketer who’s trying to grow their business, (ahem, guilty). There’s usually some kind of spiel talking about how important digital advertising is and how they could bring so many new clients or customers to your business through their services. Sound familiar? If you haven’t gotten it before, don’t worry, they eventually come. Am I here to discount that young (and hopefully hungry) marketer who’s looking to better your business? No, I don’t know them or your business. I will however, confirm how important digital advertising.
Facebook Ads remains the king(or Queen if you prefer) of direct and targeted advertisements. You can reach the most obscure audiences and get to the niche crowd you may be looking for. Though Facebook is slowly taking a backseat to their step sibling Instagram in terms of daily usage per use, it’s still a damn good marketing tool, the best.
DATA DATA DATA
Here’s an example of how detailed Facebook’s ad targeting is. Let’s pretend you’re a cake maker in Boise Idaho who specializes in vegan baking. Let’s also also add that your vegan bakery is also a Star Wars themed vegan bakery in Boise, Idaho. Oh, and you want women above the age of 40. Imagine how hard it would be to target your vegan cake eating woman above 40 in Boise Idaho without facebook targeting.
Imagine that, Facebook has gathered so much data on it’s user’s over the years and was able to create an audience of people based off of who you wanted to reach. So if you want to reach your ideal end user, Facebook is the way to go. No other platform creates an experience for the advertiser and for the user like Facebook ads does, and this is why they’re the cream of the crop for advertising budgets.
What I just showed you is an extremely basic use of the platform, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Facebook’s advertising platform and data.
There are levels to this game
Yes you can get the job done working with the basic use of the platform, but that doesn’t mean you will get the end result you want. There are so many moving parts to advertising in general, but Facebook’s specifically is a maze, and potentially an extremely costly one if you don’t know what you’re doing. Facebook has a very low daily budget requirement for advertising, just a couple of bucks. But that small amount daily over time, really ads up, and if you aren’t making the right moves with your facebook advertising, then you’re just throwing money away. It happens more often than you would think with small businesses.
Good enough, sometimes isn’t
You run a small business, so you know how important efficiency and maintaining margins are. This is why so many businesses fail at Facebook advertising, they just don’t understand it. It’s an extremely complex platform with so many tools that can help or hurt your business. So once a business owner sees some loss, they 86 digital ads and think negatively of it. That would be like me attempting to bake a cake, doing the bare minimum with really no baking experience, failing at it, and saying cakes aren’t any good. There are people who’ve working on their craft, know the ins and outs of it, can explain difficult aspects in simple terms, and just simply, do it right and do it better. So if you have tried or know someone who has tried Facebook Ads and it didn’t work for you/them, it wasn’t the advertising or the platform that didn’t work. A tool is only as good as the person using it.
Buy once cry once
I’ve always been told “if you do a job once, do it right” and I’ve since added onto it “if you can’t do it right, pay someone who can”. Even with the low required daily budget, Facebook advertising can still be extremely costly when added up. Don’t lose money and ground with competitors while you try and figure it out. Good advertising can be the difference between a customer going to you or going with someone else. There are absolutely tons of consumers out there who actively spend money, but they and their money is finite and to win their business you need to first win their attention.
If you’re serious about stepping up your digital marketing game, then you should reach out to an agency who handles these types of jobs. They come equipped with the experience necessary to wield the advertising sword and smite your enemies! Ok not really, but they absolutely know what they’re doing and are the key piece in connecting you to your goals.
